The underside of the sliding seat lid is covered with "The Connecticut Herald Weekly Journal" newspaper from New Haven, dated January 11, 1873.

Condition: There is red paint over an earlier coat of red paint. A large 3-board pine top is held together with shaped cleats. The feet have had sections, at an early date, added to raise the height. A ten-inch diagonal section of one pivoting arm was replaced at an early date, before the most recent repaint. One peg appears to be missing and the other appears to be an old replacement.
