Summer, a Sturtevant Nyack piano maker, married Ellen Burd, the daughter of Thomas Burd, carpenter Ð builder of Nyack who built the house sometime between 1859-1875. The house was reportedly the last house built using mortise-and-tenon joints and wood dowels.
